U4GM - Fastest Route From Spawn to Runes: 6 Early Game Tips

Elden Ring is a massive and brutal world, and if you’re like me, your first few hours in the Lands Between probably involved more deaths than you’d care to admit. But after several playthroughs, I’ve found reliable ways to speed up early progression and gather Elden Ring runes quickly without endless grinding. Whether you're new or starting fresh with a new character, these six tips will help you get the fastest route from spawn to runes—without wasting time or risking your patience.

1. Choose a Rune-Ready Class

When I started my journey in Elden Ring, I experimented with multiple classes. The best for early rune collection, in my experience, is the Vagabond or Samurai. Both have a good balance of offense and survivability. You want to be able to handle quick fights and survive encounters while still dishing out decent damage. These classes make it easier to farm small mobs efficiently right out of the gate.

2. Activate the Gatefront Site of Grace Early

Once you enter Limgrave, your first destination should be the Gatefront Site of Grace. It’s a key location because activating it gives you access to your mount, Torrent. Trust me—Torrent changes everything. With your mount, you can move faster, avoid unnecessary battles, and quickly get to key farming spots or safe rune-rich areas.

3. Head to the Third Church of Marika

From Gatefront, ride northeast to the Third Church of Marika. It’s one of the fastest ways to access the portal to the Beastial Sanctum in Caelid—a high-risk, high-reward zone. The portal behind the church takes you to a place filled with high-level enemies. You won’t fight them, but you'll be close to rune-rich areas where a few stealth kills or smart tactics can get you thousands of Elden Ring runes early.

I’ve personally used this route in almost every playthrough. It’s risky at first, but if you’re careful, you can grab enough runes to gain 10+ levels within your first hour.

4. Use Stealth in Caelid to Avoid Combat

Once you arrive in Caelid, the enemies are brutal. Don’t fight unless you know exactly what you’re doing. Instead, use stealth or Torrent to navigate around them. My go-to trick is sneaking up on the isolated knights near the Sanctum and using charged attacks to get a rune boost. With minimal confrontation, I’ve been able to gather over 20,000 runes in less than 30 minutes.

5. Farm the Ball Trap in Lenne’s Rise

After gaining a few levels and upgrading your vigor, you can take on the famous “ball trap” near Lenne’s Rise. It’s a brilliant way to gather Elden Ring runes quickly. As a personal favorite, I’ve used this method in every new character run. Just bait the large rolling ball down the hill—it explodes, and you get easy runes. Rinse and repeat. It’s simple, safe, and surprisingly effective.

6. Consider Your Time: Buy Elden Ring Runes Without Farming

Let’s face it—not everyone has time to grind. While I enjoy the thrill of risky farming runs, there were times when I just wanted to get past the early game and dive into more advanced builds or challenging bosses. That’s when I looked into trusted marketplaces where players can buy Elden Ring runes without farming. This isn’t for everyone, but for time-strapped gamers who still want to enjoy the full experience, it can be a reliable option. Just make sure to use a reputable site with solid reviews and secure delivery.

The early game in Elden Ring can be punishing, but with the right approach, you can gather runes fast, level up quickly, and take control of your journey. From my own experience, the combination of efficient exploration, clever farming routes, and occasionally buying Elden Ring runes without farming has made each new character stronger and more enjoyable to play.
